Roofing Questions

Commonly Asked Questions:

How can a homeowner recognize when a roof system has problems?
Roof system problems tend to be discovered after leaking or some serious damage occurs. Twice-a-year inspections often can uncover cracked, warped or missing shingles, loose seams and deteriorated flashings, excessive surface granules accumulating in the gutters or downspouts and other visible signs of roof system problems. A way to check from inside your home is to look for cracked paint, discolored plasterboard and peeling wallpaper, as these are signs of damaged roof areas.
What are my options if I decide to have a roof replacement?
You can choose either a complete replacement of the roof system, which involves removing your existing roof system or recover the existing roof system. That option involves only the installation of a new roof system. If you've already had one recover installed on your original roof system, check with Davis Roofing. Both Davis Roofing and many building code requirements allow for no more than one roof system recover before a complete replacement is necessary. This is because the weight of more than one roof can cause structural damage to your home. Davis Roofing can come out for a free estimate and discuss your options.
My roof leaks. Do I need to have it replaced completely?
It depends on how severe the damage is. Leaks are sometimes caused from flashings that have come loose or from a section of the roof system that has been damaged.
How long can I expect my roof system to last?
Most new roof systems are designed to provide useful service for about 20 years. Some roof system types, such as slate, clay tile and certain metal (e.g., copper) systems, can last longer. Davis Roofing offers the longest guarantee in the industry. There are many factors that go into the life of a roofing system, including local climatic and environmental conditions, proper building, roof system design, material quality and suitability, proper application and adequate roof maintenance.
What will a new roof replacement cost?
There are many different factors in the price of a new roof replacement. It can depend on such things as the materials selected, the type of home or building, location of the home or building and the time of year. To get a good idea of the price for your roof replacement from Davis Roofing, call us at 619-440-0373. Keep in mind that price is only one factor. It must be balanced with the quality of the materials and workmanship.

How many layers of roofing can be on my house?
No more than two layers should ever be placed on your home. This is to ensure that the weight of the roof does not cause structural damage to your home. If you have more than two layers, it is time to do a "tear off" and a have a roof replacement. If you are not sure how many layers you have or would like help in assessing the needs of the roof, please contact our specialists today. We will assist in helping you determine the proper solution to your roofing needs.
If I buy all the materials, can you install?
Although we don't recommend this, we will work with you if you want to buy your own materials. The reason we don’t recommend purchasing your own materials is because some product materials have been known to have defects in them. We purchase from suppliers with teams that uphold not only industry standards, but run constant testing to ensure the products are to the highest standards. If you were to inadvertently purchase these on your own for use on your home, it could cost you much more than you would expect. When a homeowner wants to supply their own material, it is also easy to not have the right amount needed. Davis Roofing is unable to provide a manufacturer's warranty on these self-purchased products.
